Oldbury Wells School Celebrates Students' Achievements
We held our annual certificate evening on 17th December 2009. Over 300 students and parents attended the evening to celebrate and recognise the achievements and successes of their young people from the last academic year.
The evening was started with a speech from Sue Hockaday, a Local Authority Education Advisor. Mrs Hockaday spoke eloquently to the audience about the role of education and the theme of inspiration. It was in fact an inspiring speech finishing with a poem by James Berry called “Isn’t my name magical?” It reminded the young people present that ultimately our inspiration and drive to succeed must come from within.
Although all students were praised for their efforts, particular students were selected for special prizes. Of special note were Sarah Williams (6 A levels including 5 A grades), Matthew Mills (3 A grades in Sciences), Eleanor Ford (best GCSE results), Ashley Silverstone and Claire Davey (service to the school and community).
Head teacher Mrs Godden extended her thanks to the staff and parents for the support shown to students during their schooling, adding, “It was a great evening and a pleasure to be able to congratulate and recognise the achievements of so many young people.”
